Spelling - We will not have a spelling list this week.

Working on our "How to Catch and Elf stories".  After we finished, 

we shared them with our kindergarten friends.

Working in math.  We were measuring things in the classroom with

 non-standard units.  We used cubes to measure.

Spelling Words - Blends

Phonics - This week we will start learning about blends.  A blend is when you have 2 (or more) consonants together and they still make their own sound.  They blend together.

Religion - We have been learning about Advent.  The four candles are hope, peace, joy, and love.  Each day during wake up work we color a page in our Advent books.  Our Promise Paper last week also discussed Advent.  The current virtues and values cards that we are working on are generosity and justice.  Each day during Advent we read a Bible story and add it to our Jesse Tree.  We have also been watching Brother Francis videos about Advent each day.  The videos are 2-3 minutes.  

Math - In math we have worked on adding 2 to an even number, adding 2 to an odd number, covering a design with pattern blocks, and making pictures with pattern blocks.

Writing - The students have worked so hard on their personal narratives!  After writing, the students worked hard on revising, editing, proofreading, and peer editing.  They worked on adding more juicy details to their stories and their illustrations.  Everyone has now finished and we will be sharing our stories with our kindergarten friends this week.  The next type of story we are going to work on writing is a non-realistic fiction story.

Social Studies - We have been learning about maps.  We learned about directions on the compass rose.  We learned about cities, states, countries, and continents.  We are currently working on a project called "Me on the Map".

Reading - We work every day in reading groups and daily 5 centers.  

Buddies - Our buddies helped us write letters to Santa!
