Spelling - We will not have a spelling list this week.
Phonics - We have been focusing on our glued sounds -all, -am, and -an.
Reading - We are working hard in our reading groups and centers. The students are building their stamina and becoming better readers and writers every day!
Math - In math we have been working on adding three numbers. We are learning strategies on how to solve those equations, such as making a 10 or making a double. We also spent some time with some fun Halloween math activities.
Science - In science we worked on our project - which was a light investigation. In our light investigation we learned about lightning, reflection, the sun, shadows, and the human eye.
Religion - We have been learning about two virtues - self-control and diligence. The Holy Cross school wide BOLT theme for October is diligence. We talked about how diligence can look like working really hard - even when it's challenging. A person who exhibits diligence may even be helping others who are having a hard time with their work.
In our Promise Book, we learned what the 7 Sacraments are. We will learn about baptism this coming week.
Writing and Handwriting - We continue to practice our handwriting. We work on writing neatly, using good spacing, forming the letters correctly, and putting the letters on the correct lines. We are getting close to finishing up our first journals.
Adopt-A-Cow - We have adopted a cow! The Adopt-A-Cow program is a national program from Discovery Dairy. They send us updates on the height and weight of our cow, as well as all sorts of pictures, videos, farmer information, dairy information, etc. This year our cow is once again from Schleis Farm in Kewaunee, Wi. And...our cow is SASSY!
