***If you did not return your child's report card envelope from last trimester please do so.  Thank you!

***A few FYIs***

First Grade Math - We are in the last unit of the first grade book.  We are working on two digit addition.  We are learning four different ways to add the numbers together.  The four methods are called new groups above, new groups below, show all totals, and stick and circle.  (We call that one ball and stick.  Here's a picture of how to do each of the methods -

First Grade Phonics - We've added the vowel teams ue and ew.  Today we added two more suffixes.  We added -ed and -ing.  We learned when -ing is a glued sound and when it is a suffix.

Religion - Each day we add to our Lenten Path.  The Promise Paper that we will work on tomorrow is about this weekend's Gospel story of The Prodigal Son.  We are going to start working on a book called The ABCs of Lent.

Reading - Our word work focus is still contraction words this week.  We have a lot of different centers to work on contraction words.

Spelling - We will not have a spelling list again this week.

Handwriting - Today the second graders worked on cursive lower case j.  The first graders worked on reviewing the letters Mm, Nn, Rr, and Hh.

Social Studies - We are continuing along in our book.  We have gotten to the part in our book that talks about the United States.  We are taking it a little further and learning each state, their capital, and a few facts about that state.  Each time we have social studies we learn about three states.  We are currently at 24 states.

Computer - We are continuing to work on typing.  Last week Dr. Seuss day fell on our computer day - Wednesday.  Last week the students got to go to the website Seussville instead of typing.  This week we'll be back at typing practice.

Writing - We had a few choices in writer's workshop last week.  The students could write Dr. Seuss stories, (How would you get the Cat in the Hat to leave, I would not eat green eggs and ham, but I would eat ______ on a ______)  they could finish up their piggy stories, or they could work out of their writer's workshop notebooks and/or illustrate their stories.

Here are a few pictures from last week -

The Abe and George Mobiles.  They'll be coming down this week.

and goldfish crackers.
