Phonics - We have been learning the letter keyword sounds for the longs vowels. We learned about vowel-consonant e syllables and how to mark them. A vowel-consonant e syllable is a word that has a silent e at the end and that makes the vowel sound long. for example home.
Computer - In the computer lab we have been practicing keyboarding skills. We use a website called Dancemat BBC. It starts with the home row and progresses little by little through all the letters. If your child ever want to get to some of the websites that we use at home - there's an easy way to do it. We have a sqworl page. It is www.sqworl.com/grazhj. If you type that in, it will bring up websites that we use in our classroom.
Social Studies - We continue to learn three states and capitals at a time. We are up to number 27 - Nevada. We have been learning the song Fifty Nifty. It's so fun to hear them sing it! Our last Flat Stanley arrived! We have them all! We were so excited! Kate sent hers to Princess Kate in England. She actually got a response. It was not from Princess Kate herself, but from someone that works there. How cool is that?!
Science - After vacation we will start working out of our next Einstein Kit - organisms. It's a fun kit. The kids will be planting seeds, creating terrariums, and creating aquariums.
Religion - We have been working out of a book called The ABC's of Lent. We discuss a few pages and color/draw each day. This last week we spend most of our time practicing for mass. The students did a fantastic job at the all school mass yesterday!
Yesterday we had a fun day before vacation. We spent the morning with our buddies from Resurrection. The students went through different stations - exercising with the number 40 for Lent (40 jumping jacks, 40 seconds of jumping rope, etc.), watching a Lent video, and playing Lent bingo.
In the afternoon yesterday our class went to they gym and we learned some hula hooping! It was so much fun. We ended the day creating some lucky leprechauns!
Have a fantastic spring break!!!!!!
