***First grade has math homework tonight.
***Tomorrow is a Hawaiian dress down day.
A few FYIs -
First Grade Math - We learned about basic fractions. We learned 2D shapes and 3D shapes. We are measuring using non-standard units. (paper clips, paper)
2nd Grade Math - Second grade has officially finished the second grade book and started the third grade book. We are starting multiplication with fives. Many of the students have mastered multiplication up to 12 already!
First Grade Phonics - We have learned the vowel teams oi, oy, oa, oe, and and ow. We have learned about closed syllables (and the difference between open and closed syllables). We learned how to tap when there are five sounds in a word.
Social Studies - We learned land and water terms. (hill, lake, mountain, ocean, plain, river) We learned about resources. We got to the part in our book about the United States. We're taking it a little bit farther. We are now learning the names of each of the fifty states, their capitals, and a few facts about each state. We're doing this little by little. Each time we have social studies we learn three states.
Reading - This week in word work we are focusing on contraction words.
Religion - This week we learned about the transfiguration of Jesus. Ms. McAllister gave us a nice talk. We also learned about it in our Promise Paper. We are working on looking up readings in the Bible. Each day we add to our Lenten Path.
