A few FYIs -

First Grade Math - We finished up the time portion of our unit.  We are now learning about shapes.  We've learned about rectangles, squares, triangles, and circles.  We also learned the names of shapes up to ten sides.  Today we started talking about halves and equal parts.

First Grade Phonics - We are learning about vowel teams.  We have learned about ai, ay, ee, ea, and ey.  We are also learning about closed syllables.

Social Studies - We have been learning about basic maps, directions, communities, times lines, and goods, and services.

Religion - We have been discussing the Lenten season.  Next week we will spend our Religion time practicing for our mass.  Second grade families - Don't forget to register for First Communion.

Reading - The kids are doing FANTASTIC work in daily 5!  Our word work center this week combines reading, writing, and social studies.  The students are making mobiles about Abraham Lincoln and George Washington.

Handwriting - We continue to work on writing neatly, forming letters correctly, and putting letters in the correct spaces.

Valentines - The students loved passing out their Valentines today!  It was fun to watch them!  I snapped a quick picture as they were moving around passing them out.

Art - The All Grace Schools Art Show is scheduled for tonight in the Notre Dame Academy High School Commons. There is also an All Grace School Band Concert that same night in their auditorium. A few art pieces will be selected from each grade for each Grace School to showcase a variety of artwork.

Can I just say how amazing these mosaic birdbaths are turning out! I can't wait for all of you to see them. The students are doing a great job! And they really seem to enjoy working on them and seeing their sketches transformed into tile.        Mrs. Ihlenfeldt
