Phonics - We are working on two syllable words.  We are working on words with two closed syllables and words with a closed syllable and a v-e.

Writing - We are getting closer to getting our how-to stories completed.  The students are working on teaching their readers how to do sometime or make something.  Their stories need to have a materials list, at least 4 steps, and transition words.  They are working hard on these stories!

Science - We are learning about 4 different environments - The Sahara Desert, The Amazon Rainforest, The Arctic, and The African Savanna.  We are learning about 2 different organisms from each environment. We are learning how each organism uses an animal adaptation.  The four adaptations we are learning about are camouflage, protection, food, and locomotion.

Math - In math we have been learning about 3D shapes.  We are learning about cubes, cylinders, spheres, rectangular prisms, cones, and pyramids.

Religion - We spent all last week practicing for our mass.  The students did an amazing job leading us in mass on Friday.

We celebrated 2 birthdays - Declan and Miss Falkenberg

Phonics - We have started to work on 2 syllable words.  We are currently focusing on 2 syllable words with 2 closed syllables.  We have learned where to break the syllables apart.

Reading - We continue to work in our reading groups and centers.  Our word work focus is homophones - words that sound the same, but they are spelled different and mean something different.  This week we will start our end of the year STAR assessments.  We have 2 STAR assessments - math and reading.  We will do one this week and one next week.

Writing - We are working on How To stories.  We are still in the planning stage.  This coming week we will start our first drafts.

Math - We have been working on adding and subtracting tens and ones.  We have learned how to do this with base ten blocks, the hundred chart, and by using equations.

Science - In our PLTW unit Animal Adaptations, we are on a lesson called - The Map.  This lesson will take us many days to get through.  We are learning about different environments - and animals and plants that have used adaptations to survive in that environment.  So far, we learned about the Pacific Ocean.

Religion - We are using our Religion time to practice for this week's mass!  Please practice your child's readings with them at home.  We have mass this Friday, May 1st.

Wednesday was Administrative Professionals Day.
We made flowers for Mrs. Davister with our
4th grade buddies.
