Spelling - We will not have a spelling list this week.

Reading - We continue to work in our guided reading groups and daily 5 centers.  This week and next week our word work centers are activities focusing on Dr. Seuss.  (His birthday is March 2nd.)  We have word searches, crossword puzzles, rhyming activities, water fall books, writing the room activities, Dr. Seuss writing activities, and many more choices.

Writer's Workshop - We are continuing to work on the steps of writing.  The students are LOVING it when they get to publish a book!  We are also working on handwriting - writing neatly, writing in the correct spaces, using finger spacing, watching for backwards letters, etc.

Math - In math last week we worked on writing money amounts, dividing shapes into halves, and we did a lot of work on subtraction facts (subtracting by 2).  We also had some math centers.

Science - We have been working on the properties called viscosity and fluidity.  Viscous means slow and means fast.  We did some tests - and one of the tests was called drop races.  We put drops of two liquids on a container and then we lifted the container to see which liquid raced to the bottom first.  Before each race we predicted.  Some of the races surprised us!  It ended up that out of the four liquids, water was the most fluid and shampoo was the most viscous.

Religion - Last week we spent all our Religion class practicing for mass.  Boy did they do a great job!!!  This was the last mass that first grade will be leading this year.  This week we have been learning about Ash Wednesday and Lent.  We also found out that first grade is going to be leading Stations of the Cross (with 7th grade) on March 20th.  Today the students that are reading took their readings home.  Please practice with them.  We have a while before we are leading Stations, but we are starting to practice now.  On March 20th, here are the parts that the students chose -
Station 2 - Rachel
Station 4 - Lorelai
Station 6 - Vincent
Station 8 - Mikey
Station 10 - Justin
Station 12 - Addison
Station 14 - Vivianna
Sign Holders - Ella, Sophia, Kambria
