Phonics - We have learned a new set of glued sounds.  The glued sounds are ang, ing, ong, and ung.




Reading  - We continue to work in centers and practice our reading skills in our reading groups.










Science and Social Studies - We finished up our Light and Sound unit.  Our final job was finishing up our launch logs.  We started a social studies unit.  We have started learning about maps.  We have learned about directions and the compass rose.







Math - We have been working on related facts.  We finished up module 4.  We spent some time doing "turkey math" - a few fun Thanksgiving related math activities.  We will start module 5 this week.










Religion - We spent some time in Adoration.  We started a new Friendzy unit called "You First".  This week we will start learning about Advent.

Writing - We are working on our personal narratives.  We are in the planning stage.  We came up with ideas.  Next we narrowed our idea down to a small moment.  We started with a big topic, broke it down into a smaller topic, then broke it down into a small moment. Then we worked on breaking our story into a beginning, a middle, and an end.  This week we will start writing our stories.

Spelling - Suffix s Action Words -

Phonics - We are continuing to work on suffix s words.  We have learned different reasons to use the suffix s.  The first reason we learned was to make a word plural.  The second reason we learned was to make a word into an action word.  

Reading - We continue to work in reading groups and centers.  We have just finished another round of running records and sight word checks.  





Science - This week we finished our projects and then we shared our projects.  Each student was given the task to make a communication device using either light, sound, or both.  










Math - In math we have been working on thinking addition to subtract and identifying related facts.  For example, if we have 3 numbers we can make 4 equations - 2 addition equations and 2 subtraction equations.  
Example -
5+4=9
4+5=9
9-5=4
9-4=5











Religion - We have been working in our Friendzy book.  The catchphrase is "Love at All Times".  We also continue to learn about the virtues and values of piety and prayerfulness.  Monday we also learned about Veteran's Day.  While learning about Veteran's Day, we talked about Patriotism, which also has  virtues and values cards.  


4th Grade Buddies - On Thursday, December 18, students in grades PK-4 will be going to a local nursing home to sing Christmas songs and spread cheer to the residents.  This week, the 1st and 4th graders began practicing their songs during their buddy time.







Thanksgiving Craft Fun - We made turkeys out of our hands and feet!
