Spelling - This week we will not have a new spelling list.  We will have a new list next week.

Phonics - We are still working on the glued sound -all and bonus letters.

Reading - We continue to work in our guided reading groups and literacy centers.

Math - In math we have been learning subtraction strategies.

Science - In our PLTW unit light and sound, we worked in our launch logs - writing and drawing about what we discovered when we were doing our light centers.

Writing and Handwriting - We continue to write in our journals.  We are working on adding more details, using good spacing, starting sentences with capital letters, and ending sentences with punctuation.  When working on our handwriting, we focus on writing neatly, forming the letters correctly, and writing the letters on the correct lines and spaces.

Religion - In Religion we read out of our Children's Bible about Abraham and Moses.  We learned about the Ten Commandments.  We have learned about the fruits of the spirit - and are learning a fun song to help us remember what they are. (love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control) 

On Wednesday we went to Adoration.  We also said the rosary as a class.  We watched a video from Brother Francis to teach us the rosary.

Spelling - Bonus Letters

Phonics - We are learning about bonus letters.  The bonus letters we are working with are f, l, and s.  When a word is one syllable, has one short vowel, and ends with f, l, or s, usually you double the final consonant. To mark a bonus letter, you put a star over it.

We will also start learning about glued sounds.  The first glued sound we have learned about is -all.  To mark a glued sound, you put a box around it.

Reading - We have started to work in our guided reading groups.  While some students are working in groups, the other students are working in the daily 5 centers.

Math - In math we have been learning different adding strategies.  This week we will start learning different subtraction strategies.

Science - In our PLTW unit Light and Sound we explored four light centers - Mirror, Hand, Color Filter Cards, and Diffraction Grating.
