Math - This week in math we are starting the part of unit 2 that focuses on subtraction.  We are making circle drawings, writing equations, and acting out subtraction stories.

Writing - This week we are still writing in our journals, but I am going to start introducing writer's workshop.  I will be send home an interest inventory one day this week.  The interest inventory is a list of things that your child likes.  We will glue this to the back of the writer's workshop notebook to give the students ideas of things to write about.

Reading - This week in word work our centers are:  putting together the poem "Five Little Monsters", filling in the blanks of three Halloween poems, making Halloween books, and reading and illustrating "The Twelve Days of Halloween".  Every day we have Daily 5 in reading.  This means I work with small groups.  While I am working with the groups, the students have five choices - read to self, read to someone, work on writing, listening, and word work.  We also work on Odyssey at this time.  Odyssey is a computer program that all GRACE schools have.  Each student has their own username, as their page correlates with their MAP test scores.

Phonics - This week we are starting to learn about glued sounds.  The sounds we will learn are -all, and we'll probably get to -am and -an.  The glued sounds are a little trickier to tap out, as the students "glue" their fingers together.  Ask your child to show you.  :)

Science - We continue to work on our weather Einstein kit.  This week we are learning about clouds.  The three groups we are learning about are cirrus, stratus, and cumulus.  Next Thursday, November 7th, Steve Beylon from Action 2 News will be coming in to our class to talk to us about weather.

Religion - This week's gospel story and activity is about making friends, and being a good friend.  We are also going to practice The Hail Mary.

Have a great week!  :)
