Reading - We are finished with running records and are back to reading groups and daily five centers.  Last week was the last week of Thanksgiving word work - now we are on to Christmas word work!

Math - We are starting to learn how to tell time.  We learned about the hour hand and the minute hand.  We learned that every number on the clock is 5 minutes.  We learned that there are 60 dots on our clock for 60 minutes.  We are focusing on the o'clock times first.  Then we will focus on the :30 times.

Phonics - We are continuing with the glued sounds -ang, -ing, -ong, and -ung.

Science - We are coming to the end of our weather unit very soon!  Next week we will have a visit from channel 2 meteorologist Steve Beylon!

Religion - We have been learning about Advent.  Our first Promise Paper of December talked about Advent.  We made our own Advent wreaths.  We are taking them home today.  So far, we only have the first candle lit.  I am sending home three more flames that the students can put on their Advent Wreaths each week.  The candles are 1. Purple - Hope, 2. Purple - Peace, 3. Pink - Joy, 4. Purple - Love.  Sometimes there is a white candle in the middle of the Advent wreath.  The white candle is called the Jesus candle.  We are also making a Jesse tree in our classroom.  Each day we add another piece to our tree.  Each piece of the tree is a Bible story that we read and discuss.

This is the Advent wreath that is coming home today.

This is the start of our Jesse Tree.  When we get to
Dec. 20th,  we will have made an entire Christmas tree.

December 9th - We are going Christmas caroling.  All permission slips are turned it.  Thank you!  :)

Weather Guest Speaker - Wednesday, December 11th, Steve Beylon, a meteorologist from channel 2, will be coming to our classroom.

Groundbreaking of our outdoor classroom -
We are going to have a groundbreaking ceremony on Friday, December 13th, after mass.  Each classroom is looking for a volunteer to provide dirt dessert for their class after the groundbreaking.  Please let me know if you would be willing to make and provide dirt dessert for the first grade class.  Thank you!

Have a great week!
