It's been a while since an update!  Between spring break, the virtual week, and then some short weeks, the year is getting away from us!  Here are a few updates -

Spelling - Since we have another short week, we will not have a spelling list.  We will get back into the swing of things next week.

Phonics - We have been focusing  on v-e and v-e with a suffix s. (vowel-consonant-e syllables)  We will have our end of unit test today.  Next unit we will introduce two syllable words and syllable division.

Reading - In March our word work centers focused on Dr. Seuss.  This week we introduced words that are synonyms and antonyms.  We will work on synonyms and antonyms in our centers.  In addition, we continue to read to self, read to someone, work on writing, and listen to stories.  Each day we also meet with our reading groups.

Writing - We finished up our non-realistic fiction stories.  They were so creative!  Now we are doing some choice writing.  The students are choosing their topics.  We are working on an old-fashion writer's workshop model.  Our steps are 1. Brainstorm ideas, 2. Rough Draft, 3. Edit, 4. Rewrite, and 5. Publish.  Of course the students also work in their April journals, as well as writing choices during daily 5.

Math - We have worked on 3D solids (cones and spheres), using comparison symbols (greater than, less than, and equal to), dividing objects equally, and coins.  We also continue to practice our review math facts.

Social Studies- We are starting to learn the 50 states and capitals!  Each day we learn some facts about 2 or 3 states.  We are learning them in alphabetical order.  So far we are up to 10 states.

Science - This week we will be receiving our new Einstein kit.  It is called organisms.  Organisms are living things.

Religion - We have been focusing on Lent and Easter.  We have been going through the Stations of the Cross each week.  Last week we did a school wide Divine Mercy Chaplet.  We also had Adoration.

Here are a few fun pictures - Recess, Grant's birthday, and Mrs. Anderson brought her baby chickens to school!

*We are excited to welcome our friend Eliana back from GVA!  She returned to our classroom this week!  :)

*Wipes - If you find sanitizing wipes when you are out and about, could you please pick some up and send them to our classroom?  We sanitize, sanitize, sanitize here at school!  :)  We are almost out of wipes.  Thank you!

Have a great week!
