Phonics - We are working on 2 syllable words with 2 closed syllables.  A closed syllable has one vowel, the vowel is short, and the syllable is closed of at the end by a consonant, digraph, or blend.  We have learned where the syllable break in a 2 syllable word is.  Our clues are that it is after a closed syllable or between consonants.

Reading - We continue to work on synonyms and antonyms in word work.  Every day we work in our guided reading groups and our daily 5 centers.

Writing- We are continuing with our choice writing and our April journals.  Writing is a favorite activity in our classroom!

Math - This week we worked on math facts, counting money with bills in addition to coins, and adding 3 single digit numbers together.

Social Studies - We only squeaked in social studies a tiny bit last week.  We are up to 13 states and capitals.

Science - Our new Einstein kit has arrived!  We went through lesson 1 - exploring what we know about organisms and lesson 2 - observing and describing seeds.  In lesson we we brainstormed what we think an organism is, how plants and animals are alike and how plants and animals are different.  In lesson 2 we observed 4 seeds.  We observed pea seeds, kidney bean seeds, sunflower seeds, and pumpkin seeds.  We described the seeds using our senses of seeing, feeling, smelling, and hearing.  We took notes about our seeds.  This coming week we will be planting our seeds and building terrariums.

Religion - This week we spent some time working our our Jesus is Risen craft.  We also started working on our new virtue card -  humility.  Brother Jacob should be returning this week!  We are excited to welcome him back for our Wednesday lessons!

We love building!

***Boots - Please continue to send boots to school with your child.  We have assigned areas for recess.  On Tuesdays and Fridays we are on the field.  If your child does not wear boots outside, they are coming into the classroom with mud on their shoes.  The mud is getting all over our carpet and floor.  It is a huge mess.  Please send boots!  :)

***Wipes - Thank you for sending in wipes.  We still need more.  :)  We go through a lot of wipes sanitizing our classroom down every day.  Please consider helping us out.  Thank you!

Have a great week!
