Phonics - We worked on 2 syllable words with 2 closed syllables. On Friday we were introduced to 2 syllable words with 1 closed syllable and 1 v-e syllable. That will continue to be our focus this upcoming week.
Reading - We are on our last week of synonyms and antonyms in word work. The students have been working so hard in daily five centers and guided reading groups! Reading is one of our favorite times of the day!
Writing - We continue to work in our April journals and in our writer's workshop!
Math - We worked on money (counting dimes, nickels, and pennies), identifying fractional parts of a whole, more fraction practice, math facts review, and had an assessment.
Social Studies - We are up to 19 states. In ABC order, that's Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, and Maine. As we're learning the states and capitals, we are learning a song to help us remember them all - The Fifty Nifty. We'll keep plugging along with our states and capitals this week!
Science - We have had a busy week in science! We planted seeds (kidney bean, peas, pumpkin, sunflower), learned about 2 woodland plants (moss and pine tree seedlings), built terrariums, learned about two freshwater plants (elodea and cabomba), and built aquariums!
Religion - We always start the week with our Promise Paper. This last week we also started our new virtue card - humility, had a visit from Brother Jacob, read a story in our safe environment, went to mass, and went to adoration!
Typing - A new skill we are learning is how to type! The students are loving it! We use a website called dancemat. https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zf2f9j6/articles/z3c6tfr The students are loving it and they are doing an amazing job!
On Monday we celebrated Cameron's birthday!
