Phonics - We learned about consonant blends.  A consonant blend is when there are two or more consonants together, each making its own sound. For example, in the word slip, the blend is s l.  To mark a blend, each letter in the blend is underlined.

Reading  - In word work we are learning about compound words.  A compound word is 2 words that make one word.  For example rain+bow = rainbow.  This week starts our winter assessments.  We will be doing our reading Star test this week and our math Star test next week.  We are also doing our Heggerty assessments, CBMs, running records, and sight word assessments.

Math - In math we have been solving problems by looking for the sum, figuring out a problem with a missing partner, and figuring out what the possible partners could be if we know a total.  We have been using concrete models (cubes) and a bar model.

Science - Our PLTW unit is called Sun, Moon, and Stars.  We read our introduction story.  We are starting by learning about the sun.  This week we are going to make sundials.

Writing - We are getting close to finishing up our personal narratives.

Religion - In Friendzy our unit is called "You First"  It is about putting others needs ahead of your own and being selfless instead of selfish.  Congratulations to our BOLT winners from December's virtue - cheerfulness - Grayson and Alynnah.  January's virtues are magnificence and kindness.  We learned about Epiphany and the three wise men.  We chalked our door and learned the meaning of why that is done.  Mrs. Curran brought in gold, frankincense, and myrrh to show us.

We received our three month update on our cow - Sassy.

Fourth Grade Buddies - We filled a jar with stars of ways to show kindness in the new year

Have a great week!
