Phonics - We have started learning vowel teams. We continue to work on closed syllables. A closed syllable has one vowel, it is a short vowel, and it is closed off at the end by a consonant, a digraph, or a blend.

Reading - In reading we continue to work in reading groups and centers. Last week our word work focused on the 100th day of school theme. This week we will start learning about contraction words in word work.

Religion - Our current Friendzy unit is called "Team Work Makes the Dream Work". The virtues and values for the month of February are zeal and self-control. Another word for zeal that we will be learning this week is magnanimity.

Valentine's Day - We will exchange valentines on Friday afternoon. (February 13th) We are making valentine bags at school this week to hold all their valentines. Your students may bring in their valentines any day this week. We will hold them until Friday afternoon when we have our exchange.
