Reading - During reading the students work in daily 5 centers and guided reading groups.  The guided reading groups have stories and lessons at the students level.  We work on things like letter sounds, vowels, contractions, compound words, nouns, when to use an apostrophe, homophones, etc. - all while reading a leveled story.  When the students aren't in group, they are working on one of the daily 5 centers.  For the rest of October, all of our word work centers have something to do with Halloween.  :)

Phonics - We finished up our chapter about digraphs.  We are now learning about bonus letters.  Bonus letters are words that have
1.  one syllable
2.  on vowel
3.  short vowel sound
4.  the word ends with the letters f, l, or s
If all the criteria it met, you double the f, l, or s at the end of the word.  (usually)  Some examples of bonus letter words are mass, puff, and chill.

Writing - Our latest writing assignment asked us to write about our favorite season.  When writing we are working on only using capital letters where necessary, using good spacing, using punctuation, and putting letters where they belong on the lines.

Religion - Brother Jacob took us on a tour of our church.  We will be continuing the tour this week.

In our Promise Paper we read the story of the mustard seed.  We decided to plant our own mustard seeds in our classroom.

Wake Up Work - Vincent has been working with these wooden blocks.  Every day he asks me to take his picture.  Some days he does it by himself and some days he builds with friends.  Here are some of the creations. :)
