Spelling - We will not have a spelling list this week.

Religion - Last week we worked on two Promise Papers.  :)  Monday we learned about the Gospel from the previous Sunday (since we didn't have school on Friday) and Friday we learned about the story of Zaccheus.  We spent some time making cards for the Abbey, The Motherhouse, and the nursing home.  Brother Jacob came in our classroom and taught us about All Hallow's Eve, All Saints Day, and All Souls Day.

Reading - Last week was the last week for the Halloween word work centers.  This week we are starting Thanksgiving themed word work centers.  As always, when the students aren't in reading groups, they are doing one of the daily 5 centers.

Phonics - We are working on the suffix -s.  We learned about the suffix card, to say the word with the baseword and then the baseword/suffix, and how to mark suffixes.  We practiced making words with suffixes on our magnetic tiles.

Science - We had a fun experiment about what to wear on a rainy day.  We tested four fabrics - cotton, cotton-polyester, nylon, and wool.  We poured water over the fabrics and checked to see if they absorbed/repelled the water.  We found out that out of the four, nylon was the best fabric to wear and cotton was the worst.

Math - We worked on +1 facts, making graphs, and we are learning the counting on method to addition equations.

Halloween - Our field trip on Halloween was wonderful!  Our first stop was the Abbey.  We sang songs, read stories, and told Halloween jokes to the priests.  (First grade read/acted out the story Scary Party by Sue Hendra.)  We also passed out our cards to the priests.  We also got some treats for our tricks.  :)  Brother Jacob then gave us a tour of parts of the Abbey.  We got to see and hear the organist play.  It was amazing!  (and loud!)  Then we ate lunch at the Abbey.

After lunch we went to the Motherhouse.  We passed out our cards to the sisters. There we again did all of our performances.  When we were leaving we were again given some treats.

Our last stop was Oak Park.  The residents there had tables set up for us to trick or treat.  We passed out our cards and went trick or treating.  Then we did all of our performances again! We ended our time there with lemonade and popcorn.

Here are our Halloween costumes -
