Reading - The last few weeks we have been doing running records and sight word checks. This week we will get back to reading groups. The students have been working in centers. (read to self, read to someone, listening, work on writing, word work) Our word work focus has been contraction words. This week we are going to have word work centers based on Dr. Seuss. :)
Phonics - In phonics we now have learned the last row of vowel teams. The last row is au and aw. The keywords are au-August and aw-saw. We have been learning about suffixes. In addition to s, we have now learned about suffix -ed and suffix -ing.
Math - In math we have been working on missing addends up to 10. working with coins (nickels, dimes, and pennies), using geoboards to practice congruent shapes, and measuring using inches.
Religion - We have been learning about Lent. Each day we go over our Lentopoly board. We have learned all about Ash Wednesday and our Lent words - pray, fast, give. We have gone through the Stations of the Cross. We will be doing the Stations once per week until Easter.
Science - We are finishing up our science Einstein Kit - solids and liquids. Last week we put liquids together and found out if they mixed or if they didn't mix. It was a messy and fun experiment. :)
Writing - We are working on publishing our fiction stories. They are turning out fantastic! We of course also write in our journals. We continue to work on our handwriting as well.
