Phonics - We are working on another group of vowel teams - ou, oo, ue, and ew.  I think this is the trickiest row of our vowel teams.  There are 4 vowel teams - and 7 sounds!

Reading - During our daily 5 time I have been doing running records.  We should have this round finished this week.  I'll also be checking sight words this week.  Our current word work focus is contraction words.  The students are currently really enjoying read to self and read to someone.  It is awesome to look around and see all the reading going on!  :)

Writing - We are continuing to work on our non-realistic fiction stories.  We are working on our characters and setting, as well as our beginning, middle, and end.  We also are working in our February journals.

Religion - Our virtues and values word is meekness.  Our card last week talked about how to calm down when you are angry.  Our Promise Paper last Monday was from Mark 1: 29-39.  It talked about Jesus healing Simon-Peter's mother-in-law.  We focused on helping others.  This week the Gospel is again from Mark.  It is Mark 1:40 - 45.  The story this week is about Jesus healing a man with leprosy.  We will again talk about helping others.  This week Lent begins.  On Tuesday we will be doing an activity called "Burying the Alleluia".  On Wednesday we will be learning about Ash Wednesday and starting to learn about Lent.

Math - In math we worked on counting by hundreds, adding two digit numbers with and without carrying a number, and finding the missing partner.  For example, 4+__=10, __+3=10.  On Thursday we worked on graphing using candy hearts.

Science - We have started the liquids portion of our solids and liquids unit.  Last week we worked with water and glue.  This week we will add more liquids.

Valentines - We created valentine bags, a valentine craft, and we passed out our valentines on Thursday!

Inside Recess - All Week!

Have a great week!
