Phonics - We learned about the "ic" rule. If a word has two syllables and it ends with ic, it is spelled with jus a c. If a word has one syllable and it ends with ic, it is spelled with a ck. Examples - sick, panic.
This week we are working on 2 syllable words that have the suffixes s, ed, and ing.
Reading - We continue to work in groups and centers. We will be starting our final round of running records. Our word work this week will be switching to making sentences.
Math - In math we learned how to add 3 numbers. We learned to combine two of the numbers into something we know, such as a ten or a double. For example, if the problem is 6+3+4 =_____, you can combine the 6 and the 4 to make a 10. Then the problem becomes 10+4. We also worked on counting coins, counting bills, and making change.
Writing - We have been working on 2 more types of poems. First we worked on cinquain poems. A cinquain poem has five lines. Each line follows a pattern.
Line 1 - Title (one word)
Line 2 - Description (two words)
Line 3 - Action (three words)
Line 4 - Phrase (4 words)
Line 5 - Title (synonym for the title)
Next we worked on diamonte poems. We will be finishing them this week. Diamonte poems are shaped like a diamond. They also follow a pattern.
Line 1 - Noun (Title - one word)
Line 2 - Adjective (two words)
Line 3 - Verd ending with -ing (3 words)
Line 4 - Adjective (two words)
Line 5 - Noun (one word)
Science - We are working on Designs Inspired by Nature Activity 2 - Animal Communication. We brainstormed how animal communicate and watched a video. We read a book called How Do Animals Communicate? We learned about four forms of animal communication - sight, hearing, touch, and smell. We will continue this lesson this week.
Religion - In our Friendzy books we are working on the unit titled Uniquely You. Our virtues and values trait this week is modesty.
