Phonics - We are continuing to learn about closed syllables and vowel teams.  This week we are adding the vowel teams oa, oe, and ow. 

Reading - We continue to work in reading groups and work in our centers.  Currently in word work we are working on words that are contractions.

Religion - We continue to learn about the virtues and values of zeal (magnanimity) and self-control.  We read a great book called The Pups of the Spirit.  It taught us about all the fruits of the spirit.  Then, of course, we practice the fruits of the spirit song.  :)  We spent some time in adoration last week.  We worked out of our Promise books.  We learned about seasons of the church.  We focused on the season coming up this week - Lent.

Science - We have been busy in our PLTW unit sun, moon, and stars.  We have learned about patterns of the moon, stars, constellations, and planets.  In one of our lessons we learned about UV rays.  UV rays can be harmful to us and we need to protect ourselves.  In our lesson, we used UV detecting beads.  We tried to heat them up to see if that affected them.  It did not.  We tried light from flashlights and our classroom lights.  That did not affect them.  Then, we took the UV detecting beads outside.  That made them change color!  

Math - In math we have been learning about graphs.  We worked on picture graphs, tally graphs, and bar graphs.  We worked on learning about tally marks.
