Math - In math we have been working on a few different methods of adding. This week we learned about counting on and starting with the bigger number.
Phonics - We are finishing up our unit on digraphs. Today we made some cute digraph spiders. I'll have to snap a picture tomorrow. We are also learning about bonus letters. A bonus letter is the letter f, l, s, and sometimes z. A bonus letter is when the letter is doubled at the end of the word. The rule is - if the word is one syllable and has a short vowel and ends with the letters f, l, or s, usually it is doubled. (bell, mass, cuff)
Reading - We are building stamina. Each day we work in the daily 5 centers. We are practicing how to work in the centers, how to mark off, how to switch, etc. There are only 2 more students that I need to finish up running records with. Hopefully that gets done tomorrow. Then we will be able to start working in our reading groups, as well as working in the daily 5 centers.
Science - This week we continued to work on thermometers. We even made our own thermometers to practice reading the temperature. Each day we have been recording cloud cover, precipitation, and wind.
Religion - Last week the Gospel reading was the parable of the mustard seed. We planted some mustard seeds this week Monday - hopefully we have some sprouts in the next week. We are working on making our own mustard seed parable books. Tomorrow we will read out of our Promise Papers to learn about this weekend's Gospel reading.
Spelling - We had our first spelling list this week. The first test is tomorrow.
Today the middle school spent the morning with us. We got to work with 8th grade buddies. We made parrot decorations for the auction. We also made pirate flags. The kids had a great time working with their buddies!
Tomorrow is Football Friday!
Have a great weekend!
