Wow!  Trunk or Treating was a fun night!  Thank you for coming out tonight!

A few FYI's -

First Grade Math - We have been working on story problems - addition and subtraction.  Sometimes we are solving for the total and sometimes we have to find the unknown partner.

Phonics - We are working on glued sounds.  (-all, -am, -an)  We will have our unit test next Tuesday. Then we will start working on suffix s.

Religion - We are learning about the story of creation in our Religion books.  We have been spending most of our time practicing for our mass.  We have mass on Tuesday - All Saints Day.

Science - We are continuing to learn about weather.  We have been learning about the water cycle.  We did an experiment with a puddle in our classroom.  We made a puddle and watched it every day.  We drew how it looked each day.  It took 7 days for our puddle to evaporate.  We also had a lesson about rainy day fabrics.  We tested cotton, cotton polyester, wool, and nylon to see which of those would be the best to wear in the rain.  We found out nylon was the best of those fabrics.  Steve Beylon, a meteorologist with WBAY is scheduled to talk with us on Wednesday.

Reading - We continue to work in our reading groups and our daily 5 centers.  This week our word work focus is Halloween.  :)

***Just a reminder***  Halloween is on Monday.  The students are to come to school in their uniforms.  They will change into their costumes for the Halloween party.  The party is at 12:30.

Have a great long weekend!
