Spelling - We will not have a spelling list this week.

Phonics - We are continuing to work on the v-e syllable with a suffix s.

Religion - Every morning during Lent we watch a Brother Francis video.  They are short 2-3 minute videos that teach us about Lent - such as, "A time to give things up", "A time for ashes", and "A time for palms".  We have been going to Stations of the Cross each Monday morning.  In our classroom we are also learned about each station.  This week our Thursday Lent journal entry was to write and draw something  you want to tell God, but you are shy or nervous to.  We are also busy practicing for our next Mass.  First grade has Mass on Wednesday, April 16th.  If your child has a reading, please continue to practice reading it with them at home.

In April, our new virtues and values theme will be temperance and moderation.  Temperance is using self-control.  Moderation is keeping a good balance with not too much or not too little of something.

Congratulations to Jesse and Claire for being our March BOLT award winners for modeling the virtues and values of foresight and responsibility.

Science - In Animal Adaptations this week the environment we finished up learning about was the Pacific Ocean.  We learned about the adaptations of the shark.  Then we the learned about was the Amazon rainforest.  We learned about the adaptations of two animals from the rainforest - the poison dart frog and the toucan.

Tomorrow, April 1st, we will be having a guest speaker.  Steve Beylon, a meteorologist from channel 2 will be talking to us about weather.

Math - In math we continued to work on finding the missing partner using 10 frames.  We also worked on using rulers to measure in inches.

Reading - We continue to work in reading groups and centers.  This will be our last week of Dr. Seuss centers.

Writing - We have mostly finished our how-to stories.  We were able to share our stories with kindergarten this week.

Flat Stanley - We just finished reading the story Flat Stanley.  We are going to be participating in the Flat Stanley project.  Letters went home to you last week about sending in addresses of where to send our Stanleys.  When we get everyone's addresses this week we are going to learn how to put addresses on envelopes.  We will send letters out to whoever we have chosen - and send our Stanleys with them.  Over the next week or 2, our Stanleys will go on some adventures.  Our friends and family will send the Stanleys back to us - documenting what adventures Stanley went on.

Buddies - This week we made crosses with our 4th grade buddies.  They look beautiful hanging on our windows!

We had a great time at the Einstein Project's STEM Lab

We love the therapy dogs Sassy and Morgan!

Friday Fun Time!

Have a great week!
