Reading - We are always working in reading groups and daily 5 centers.  Here are a few pictures of work on writing, word work, and read to self.  This is the last week of centers with a Halloween theme.  Next week we will start the Thanksgiving themed centers.

Phonics - We continue to work on glued sounds -all, -am, and -an.  Now we are starting to learn about suffixes.  Our first suffix is suffix -s.

Science - We are learning about the water cycle in our weather unit.

Math - We are continuing to work on doubles.  We are also learning about doubles plus one, doubles minus one, and addition facts:  adding 1.  We used our wrap-ups to help us practice our facts.

Religion - Last week we practiced for mass every day during Religion.  Boy did the kids do a great job!!!!  I am so proud of them!!!

*The weather is changing!  Please make sure your children have their snow gear!  Jackets, boots, gloves, hats, scarves, etc.  Please also have some extra clothes in their locker - just in case!  Extra socks are especially helpful this time of year.  Extra gloves are helpful too.  If they get wet at at first recess, they don't want to put them on for the second recess.  We don't have a heater in our classroom to put wet clothes on so the snow clothes stay wet.

*Field Trip Thursday - Please remember to send back your permission slips for the field trip on Thursday to The Abbey, The Mother house, and the nursing home.

*November dates -
Friday, Nov. 8th - early dismissal
Friday, Nov. 22nd - early dismissal
Wednesday, Nov. 27th - early dismissal
Thursday, Nov. 28th & Friday, November 29th - no school

Have a great week!  :)

Spelling - We will not have a spelling list since it is a short week.

Reading - We continue to work in reading groups and the daily 5 centers.  We also have been checking on sight words.  All of October all of our word work centers have something to do with Halloween - Halloween poems, Halloween stories, Halloween noun/verb sort, sight words and Halloween pictures, Halloween ABC words, etc.

Science - We are continuing to learn about weather.  We compared the outside temperature to the inside temperature.  We put hot and cold water in a bowl and we measured the temperature of each.  Then we mixed the two bowls together and measured that temperature.  Scholastic News - We also read our newspaper - Scholastic News.  In October so far we have learned about pumpkins and bats.

Religion - We have been practicing and practicing and practicing for our mass!  We are so excited to lead mass this Thursday!  Brother Jacob also took us over to church and we finished our church tour. Every Friday we learn about the weekend Gospel and do activities with our Promise Paper.  This last week we made a prayer book.

Phonics - We are continuing our work on our glued sounds -all, -am, -an.

Math - We continue to work on doubles.  We have also been working on story problems (adding and subtracting) and counting backwards.

Writing - We worked on a great writing activity last week.  We made pumpkin stories.  The first step was to create a pumpkin out of construction paper.  The pumpkin could be any color or shape.  The next step was to make a rough draft.  The students had a sheet they had to follow for the rough draft.  Their pumpkin had to have a name, they had to tell the shape or size, they had to tell the color, how many teeth it had, a word that described the pumpkin, and how the pumpkin made them feel.  After the rough draft was looked over for spelling, the students had to write the final draft - with complete sentences and and punctuation!  We were so lucky - Our fourth and fifth grade buddies helped us write our stories!

Our hallway looks like Halloween with our digraph spiders, pumpkin stories, and spider webs!

A fun picture of friends!

When we were coming back from Mass practice we stopped to take a picture!

Have a great week!  :)
