Spelling - We do not have a list this week.

Reading - The students are enjoying the Dr. Seuss centers in Daily 5!  We have been reading Dr. Seuss, learning about Dr. Seuss, and having fun like Dr. Seuss!

Phonics - We have learned a new row of vowel teams - the long o row.  The teams are oa, oe, and ow.  We also learned two tricky vowel teams - ou and oo.  Both of the vowel teams have two sounds.  ou has soup and trout.  oo has book and school.  We continue to work on closed syllables, suffix s, and tapping out words that have more letters than we have fingers!

Math - In math we worked a lot on money last week.  We worked mostly with dimes and pennies.  We went "shopping" and had to figure out how much money an item was.  Then we worked on adding the two numbers together.  We have been adding two digit numbers without and with carrying a number.

Religion - Our focus has been Lent.  We are working through the Lent pages in our workbook.  We have been discussing Lentopoly every day.  Yesterday the challenge was to pray a decade of the rosary so we did that.  Today's challenge is to refrain from whining and complaining.  :)  We're having fun with that one!  We also continue to practice for our Stations of the Cross on March 20th.

Science - Our Einstein Kit is just about finished.  We have loved learning about solids and liquids!  Our last few lessons have been about mixing liquids to see if they mix or not.  We found out oil and water don't mix and corn syrup and water don't mix.  Shampoo and glue both mix with water.

The cup on the left is oil and water with food coloring. The cup on the right is corn syrup and water with food coloring.  The oil floats to the top of the water.  The corn syrup sinks under the water.

We used our liquids to make wave bottles.  The blue bottle is water and oil.
The purple bottle is corn syrup, oil, and water.

Weidner Center - We had a great time on our field trip to the Weidner Center.  We saw A Snowy Day and Other Stories by Ezra Jack Keats.

***One More Field Trip This Year - We will be going to The Building For Kids in Appleton with kindergarten on April 30th.  We will need two chaperones to go with us.  This is an all day field trip.  If you think you would be able to join us, please let me know.  Thank you!

***Snow Clothes / Extra Clothes - The weather outside is soggy.  :)  Students are getting wet at recess.  Please send some extra clothes (socks, pants, shirts, etc.) to have your child keep in their locker.  Also, the snow clothes, including boots are really stinky!  Please wash snow clothes to help us cut down on the stinky hallway smell.  :)

Talent Show - The talent show has been rescheduled for April 9th.

Have a great spring break!!!
