Word Work
Phonics - We are continuing to work on CVC words. We are reviewing the digraphs - sh, ch, wh, th, and ck. We are starting to get trick words and add them to our student notebooks. We are learning practicing dictation - the teacher says a sound, word, or sentence and the student has to write what they hear. Sometimes we use our whiteboards and sometimes we use our composition notebooks for dictation.
Math - We are continuing to practice our doubles. This week we also worked on using pattern blocks to cover spaces, putting numbers in order, using wrap ups for the first time, and using a balance.
Religion - This week we read the story of Adam and Eve from our Children's Bible. On Thursday we had an extra Mass day. We celebrated the feast of the Holy Cross. We are continuing to learn about respect in our virtues and values.
Science - We started our light and sound unit. We read the introduction story. We discussed where we have seen light and heard sound. We went on a scavenger hunt in our classroom to find sources of light and sound.
