This is going to be our last spelling list of the year!  :)

Phonics - We are continuing to work on the suffix -es.

Reading - We continue to work in Daily 5.  The last few weeks of school our word work centers are some favorites - book awards, tongue twisters, ABC order, and fantastic facts to name a few.  This week we started our last round of running records for the year!

This reading group put on a play called "Do You Live In a Nest?"

Fantastic Facts

Read to Self

Social Studies - We are now up to 44 states and capitals.

Science - We are getting close to the end of our organisms unit.  We worked on comparing and contrasting our land animals and our water animals.  We discussed ways animals move.  We also continue to care for our aquariums and terrariums and the organisms in them.

We also had a visit from the Green Bay Botanical Gardens.  They talked with us about plants.

Religion - We continue to work on the virtue card of orderliness.  One of our cards was about making sure your shoes are tied.  We found out quite a few of our students still don't know how to tie their shoes.  So - we have been working on shoe tying!  If your child does not know how to tie their shoes, please practice with them at home.

We have also started working out of our Promise books.  Our Promise Papers are finished for the year.  This Friday we will have our last Adoration of the school year.

Our last Promise Paper

Writing - The students LOVE to write!  They work on their writer's workshop and in their journals.

Our gardens - We have been working hard to complete our new gardens at school!  The kids have been helping to get the soil into the garden boxes.  :)

Have a great week!

Spelling - We will not have a spelling list this week.  Next week we will have a list of words with the suffix -es.  The students have asked me to send the list home so they can start practicing.  :)  The list is also already loaded into Vocabulary A-Z (Spelling City).

Phonics - We worked on 2 syllable words (both closed and v-e) that have a suffix -s, -ed, and -ing.  We are now learning about when to use the suffix -es.  You use the suffix -es when a base word ends in x, ch, sh, s, and z.

Reading - We continue to work in our daily five centers and reading groups.  This will be our last week of homophones for word work.  The students have really enjoyed the homophone centers!  This week we added a new center - Fantastic Facts!  The students look through a non-fiction book, find a fact, write it down, and illustrate it!  In the next week or so we will start working on our end of the year running records.

Social Studies - We are up to 41 states and capitals!

Science - We continue learning about organisms.  Last week we worked on comparing and contrasting our water plants and land plants.  We read a story about four amazing plants - the giant water lily, the rafflesia, the venus flytrap, and the saguaro cactus.  We finished up our planting cards and took our seeds home.  We continue to monitor and observe the organisms in our terrariums and our aquariums.

Math - In math we worked on polygons, subtracting 10 from a number, and subtraction problems with a difference of 2.

Religion - We worked on our Promise Paper.  We are starting a new virtue - orderliness.  We had a church tour with Brother Jacob.  On Friday we celebrated May Crowning.

We celebrated three birthdays - Serenity, Flynn, and Eliana
