Phonics -  This week we will be introducing a new group of glued sounds.  The new glued sounds are -ang, -ing, -ong, and -ung.

Religion - This week we learned about the 7 sacraments.  After learning each of the 7, we focused on baptism.  Many of the students are unaware if they have been baptized.  If they have been, share some information or pictures with them.  I think they'd love to see it.  :)  We continue to learn about gratitude and humility for our November virtues.  In Friendzy, we are also learning about gratitude.  Our unit is called Grow Gratitude.

Writing - We have started our personal narratives unit.  A personal narrative is a true story about you.  We have been researching and planning.  We have been listening to stories that are personal narratives.  We have brainstormed ideas that we could write about.  We learned that personal narratives have a beginning, a middle, and an end.  This week we are going to pick one of our ideas, learn how to focus on the small moment, and work on putting our idea into a beginning, a middle, and an end.

Reading - We work in our daily five centers and reading groups every day.  We practice read to self, read to someone, listen to reading, work on writing, word work, and meeting with the teacher to read.

Science - We are almost finished with our PLTW unit light and sound.  Our last task is the problem.  The task is to build a communication device that would use light and our sound.  Last week we made the devices.  We used the design process.  This upcoming week we will test them.

Spelling - Suffix s Action Words
taps
sets
wins
hops
runs
jams
tells
kicks
pops
shuts

Phonics - We have been learning about basewords and suffixes.  So far we have learned about the suffix s.  Last week we focused on the suffix s making words plural.  This week we will focus on the suffix s being an action word.

Religion - Our November virtues and values are gratitude and humility.  First we will focus on humility.  Humility is being humble - being proud of yourself without bragging.  The Bible story that we read last week was the story of David and Goliath.  Our Promise Paper focused on seeing God's goodness through the story of a miracle.  The miracle from the Gospel was Jesus healing a blind man - Bartimaeus.  We also continued to talk about the unthinkable and thinkable Rock Brain and Rex Flexinator.
Paul was our October BOLT Award recipient for
sincerity and trustworthiness

Writing - We finished our October journals.  They will be going home this week.  We will now be starting our personal narrative unit.  A personal narrative is a true story about you.

Math - We spent all last week learning how to tell time.  We are learning how to tell time to the :00 and the :30.

Reading - We work on reading skills every day in daily 5.  We meet in reading groups, in addition to the centers - read to self, read to someone, listen to reading, work on writing, and word work.

Turkey Time!  One of my favorite crafts are our hand and feet turkeys!

Discovery Dairy, our Adopt-A-Cow partner, has 81 cows this year.  They are running a fun campaign
where you can vote for your cow.  The cow that gets the most votes will receive a calf care package.  They will even have a watch party on Friday so we can see which cow wins.  Vote for Spot from Schleis Farm!  :)
