Phonics - We have been learning about vowel teams.  This week we are up to ou and oo.

Math - In math we have worked on adding10 to a number, comparing and ordering numbers to 100, counting by 100's, and place value (ones, tens, and hundreds).

Writing - We are continuing to work on our non-realistic fiction stories.

Science -  Our unit is called animal adaptations.  We are learning about 4 animal adaptations - camouflage, protection, food, and locomotion.
To learn about camouflage, we had an activity where we used a paper  with a pattern background.  We used cutout butterflies.  The butterflies were solid color or the pattern.  The students had 20 seconds to pick up butterflies.  We counted which butterfly we had more of.  It was usually the solid butterfrly.

To learn about protection we did an activity where we learned about something an animal uses for protection and then we had to match the animal with that adaptation.

To learn about food adaptations, we learned about bird beaks.  We had 3 items that were used to simulate bird beaks - a spoon, a tweezers, and a clothespin.  We had 3 items that were used to simulate something a bird may eat - straws, toothpicks, and marbles.  We had to test each food item with a beak to see which beak worked best for each type of food.

To learn about locomotion, we learned about different items that different birds had - long wings and short wings, webbed feet and non webbed feet, and different types of feet for climbing.

Religion - During Lent we have been watching Brother Francis every day.  Brother Francis has a short daily clip that teaches us about Lent. The virtues and values that we are currently learning about are social skills and forgiveness, prayerfulness, and moderation.  We attend Stations of the Cross each week.  This week we will also be attending Living Stations of the Cross.  We will be going to Adoration this week.  We continue to work on our weekly Promise Papers.  We fit in Friendzy as much as time allows.  Each week during Lent we also have a challenge.  Our challenges so far have been to say the rosary as a class, to make bags for meals, to fast from blurting, and to say the Divine Mercy Chaplet as a class.  We have completed all of our goals so far!  This week our challenge is to fast from being messy.  We have recently learned about the Fruits of the Spirit.  (love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control).  We are learning a fun song to help us remember them.

Reading  - We continue to work in our reading groups and centers.  Our current word work centers focus on Dr. Seuss!

Typing - We have recently started learning how to type!  The students are practicing using a website called Dancemat.  They are loving it!  They are working hard to keep their fingers on the home row!

We celebrated Lucas' Birthday

Have a great week!
